Hexahydrophthalic anhydride CAS 85-42-7
Hexahydrophthalic anhydride CAS 85-42-7 is a white to quasi-white crystalline solid with low melting point, hygroscopic, miscible with a variety of organic solvents, soluble in acetone, ethanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, toluene, and slightly soluble in petroleum ether. Toxic by inhalation, strong irritation to eyes and skin.
Advantages of Hexahydrophthalic Anhydride
1. Lipophilic acid anhydride curing agent, with low color and low yellowing, the cured epoxy resin has high transparency, making it highly suitable for LED and optical device packaging; compared with aromatic acid anhydrides, it has better weather resistance.
2. Good compatibility with bisphenol A epoxy resin; the bonding system has low viscosity, long application period, mild heat release peak, low shrinkage rate, and is suitable for large-scale casting parts.
3. The cured products have excellent electrical insulation performance, heat resistance, resistance to humidity and heat, and resistance to chemicals. It is a mainstream acid anhydride curing agent for electronic potting, transformers, and insulators.
4. Hexahydrophthalic anhydride can be used to synthesize polyesters, alkyd resins, plasticizers, and intermediate products for pharmaceuticals and pesticides; it can also be compounded with methyl hexahydrobenzophthalic anhydride to adjust the melting point and viscosity of the system.

Application
1. Electronic and Electrical Sealing and Casting
Sealing and casting for transformers, high-voltage insulators, transformers, and coils; high-purity electronic grade used for LED packaging, optical devices, and semiconductor components encapsulation, aiming for high transparency, low yellowing, excellent electrical insulation, and resistance to humidity and heat.
2. Epoxy Composite Materials
Hexahydrophthalic anhydride used for glass fiber/carbon fiber epoxy casting parts and molding plastics; suitable for large thick-walled casting parts, with low internal stress and less prone to cracking.
3. Epoxy Adhesives and Impregnating Materials
Hexahydrophthalic anhydride used for electrical insulation impregnating adhesives and structural adhesives; suitable for epoxy systems with requirements for color and weather resistance.
Packaging and Storage
Storage temperature: 5 – 25℃ in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse. The warehouse temperature should avoid being higher than 35℃ for a long time. High temperature will cause melting and agglomeration; keep away from heat sources, open flames and direct sunlight. Store in a dark place.
Hexahydrophthalic anhydride must be strictly sealed. The inner lining is a PE bag or an HDPE barrel. Open containers must not come into contact with air moisture. They will be degraded by water vapor. The containers must remain dry and free of water.
Separation storage: Keep away from water, alcohols, amines, strong bases, strong oxidants; anhydrides will react rapidly with amines and alcohols, and cannot be stored together in the same warehouse.
Factory-sealed shelf life: 12 months; immediately seal after opening. It is recommended to use within 6 months; once it absorbs moisture and undergoes hydrolysis, it cannot be restored.
Packaging: 100g – 1kg samples; 25kg galvanized iron barrels.
FAQ
Q: Can the prepared epoxy resin acid anhydride compound be stored for a long time?
A: The mixed system will react slowly. Even at room temperature, it should be used as soon as possible. The compound cannot be stored for a long time. It should be prepared on demand and used immediately.
Q: What causes the products to turn yellow after curing?
A: The curing temperature is too high and the time is too long; or the water content of the product is too high; reduce the peak curing temperature and use qualified unhydrolyzed raw materials.
Q: Can the materials that have absorbed water be recycled and processed?
A: The water decomposition generates diacid, which cannot be restored to an anhydride; the water-absorbed materials should be directly scrapped and cannot be distilled back to their original form.
Q: What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
A: Sample order: 100g – 1kg; Industrial bulk orders: 25kg as the regular starting point; Small samples can be provided for formula testing; Small sample fees will be charged; Large order quantities can be negotiated to offset the sample fees.
Q: What is the delivery cycle/lead time?
A: Inventory on hand: 5 – 10 working days after full payment received for shipment;
High-purity customized specifications orders: 12 – 20 working days; Pay attention to temperature control packaging during summer heat.
