What is Octadecenylsuccinic Anhydride？
Octadecenylsuccinic Anhydride (ODSA) is a widely used light industry fine chemical raw material. In the papermaking industry, it is used as a neutral sizing agent to greatly improve the waterproof performance, tensile strength, abrasion resistance, whiteness, opacity of paper and improve the chemical environment of the papermaking process. Usually, the process used is to isomerize alpha olefins and then react with maleic anhydride to produce it.

Application
① Paper Sizing Agent
This is its primary application area. As a highly effective neutral sizing agent, ISOOCTADECENYLSUCCINIC ANHYDRIDE(ODSA) reacts chemically with pulp fibers to impart excellent water resistance, strength, and printability to paper. It is widely used in the production of high-grade cultural paper, white cardstock, and kraft paper, and can significantly improve the stability of paper machine operations.
② Epoxy Resin Curing Agent
ODSA can be used as a curing agent or modifier for epoxy resins, improving the toughness, flexibility, and electrical properties of the cured material.
③ Fuel Lubricity Additives: In low-sulfur middle distillate fuels such as diesel, jet engine fuel, and biodiesel, the products formed by the reaction of ODSA with hydroxylamine serve as excellent lubricity additives, improving the fuel’s lubricating properties and reducing wear on fuel pumps.
④ Coatings, Resins, and Lubricants: As a raw material for the production of high-performance lubricants, antistatic agents, surfactants, coatings, resins, and other chemicals, ODSA effectively improves product dispersion and stability.
