What is polyglyceride?
Polyglyceride generally refers to polyglycerol fatty acid ester. Polyglyceryl ester of fat acid is the general name of a series of products, also known as PGFE. Polyglyceride fatty acid ester is a new type, high efficiency and excellent performance polyhydroxy ester non-ionic surfactant, which is used in food, daily chemical, petroleum, textile, coating, plastic, pesticide, rubber, medicine and other fields.
The appearance of polyglycerol ester can be powder, solid, mucus, etc., and the color is white to yellow. Polyglyceride has both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties, with good emulsification, dispersion, wetting, stability, foaming and other multiple properties. It has good thermal stability and good acid and salt resistance. The higher the degree of polymerization of polyglycerol in polyglycerol ester, the shorter the chain length of fatty acid, the lower the degree of esterification, and the better the hydrophilicity, on the contrary, the stronger the lipophilicity. Generally, the HLB value of polyglycerol ester is 2-20.

Application of polyglyceride in food
Polyglycerides with HLB value above 7 can be used as emulsifiers. Under neutral conditions, their emulsifying capacity is significantly stronger than monoglycerides, propylene glycol esters, etc. Under acidic conditions, especially when the pH value is below 5, the emulsification and stability are obviously better than sucrose esters, and they are commonly used in the field of dairy products dominated by water. Polyglycerides with HLB less than 6 can be used as emulsifiers, either alone or in combination with other emulsifiers, and are commonly used in the fields of cream, shortening, etc.
In addition to the emulsifying capacity of other emulsifiers, polyglycerol ester also has the functions of aeration, crystallization, viscosity regulation, quality improvement, etc. It is widely used in the fields of cream, baked food, ice cream, beverages, chocolate, candy and other food fields.
Application of polyglyceride in daily chemical industry
Polyglyceride is not only safe for human body, but also has the advantages of no irritation to skin, good water dispersion resistance, good stability of lotion, etc. This kind of emulsifier is widely used in daily chemicals, especially in washing and skin care products, shampoo, hair cream and emulsified essence products.
(1) Detergent
Compared with PEG surfactants, polyglycerol ester has a slightly worse decontamination ability, but is better than sucrose ester. The detergent composed of polyglycerol ester is a safe detergent, which is harmless to human body even if it remains. For example, polyglycerol esters (polyglycerol laurate, etc.) with high HLB value are suitable for detergents such as dishes, vegetables, melons and fruits, and are safer than general synthetic detergents.
(2) Cosmetics
Polyglyceride can be used in various cosmetics as emulsifier, solubilizer, stabilizer, humectant, etc., which can significantly improve product quality. Polyglyceride is less irritating to skin and hair, and has high safety. It can be used in advanced cosmetics and children’s skin care products.

The triglyceride diisostearate can be used in ordinary lotion, as well as eye shadow and lipstick products. In addition, as a co emulsifier, triglyceride monolaurate has a good effect in hand cream. Polyglycerides with high HLB value such as polyglycerol laurate can be used as solubilizers to solubilize essence and fragrances in aqueous systems. Polyglycerides with low HLB esters, such as polyglycerol decanooleate, are suitable as solvents for making anhydrous cosmetics.
Application of polyglyceride in pharmaceutical industry
Polyglyceride can be used as emulsifier, solubilizer, dispersant and penetrant in medicine due to its good safety, acid resistance, hydrolysis resistance and drug compatibility. For example, some polyglycerol stearate can regulate the dissolution of some drugs, which can effectively control the release of drugs.
Application of polyglyceride in rubber and plastics
Polyglyceride has excellent heat resistance. It can be used as internal lubricant, plasticizer, emulsifier, antistatic agent and anti fogging agent in polyethylene, polypropylene and other resins. In addition, polyglycerol ester can also be used as an improver of natural rubber and synthetic rubber.
Application of polyglyceride in textile industry
In the textile printing and dyeing industry, polyglycerol ester can be used as a fiber softener, antistatic agent, fabric evener, etc. to improve the wettability and softness of textile products, effectively reduce friction, and prevent the accumulation of static electricity.
Applications in other fields
In addition to the above fields, polyglycerol ester can also be used in the pesticide field as an emulsifier to improve the dispersion of drugs.
