Application

Diethyl malonate is an important intermediate in the preparation of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine and can be used to prepare sulfonylurea herbicides, such as bensulfuron-methyl, pyrazosulfuron-methyl, and nicosulfuron-methyl. It is also an intermediate used in medicine for sulfa drugs and barbiturates. It can also be used in gas chromatography Chemicalbook spectrum stationary solution (maximum operating temperature 40°C, solvent is benzene, chloroform, ethanol) to determine ammonia and potassium. In addition, diethyl malonate is also a food flavoring that is allowed to be used in GB2760-96, and is mainly used to prepare fruit flavors such as pears, apples, grapes, and cherries.
