What is 1,4-Dioxane-2,5-dione  CAS502-97-6 ?

1, 4-dioxacyclo-2, 5-hexadione is a cyclic ester produced by dehydration of two molecules of glycolic acid, which is used to prepare polyglycolic acid (PGA) monomer.

Weigh 50g glycolic acid and put it into 500 ml double-mouth flask, then add 0.05g phenylalanine stinious catalyst (0.1wt %), prepolymerize for 0.5h under atmospheric pressure and 120℃, and then raise the temperature to 160℃, vacuum dewater by vacuum distillation device, reaction for about 2h until no water is discharged, white oligomers can be obtained.

Then, 1, 4-dioxacyclo-2, 5-hexadione was collected by decompressure cracking at 260℃, and 33.9g of 1, 4-dioxacyclo-2, 5-hexadione was obtained after 5h. The product yield was 89% and the melting point of the product was 90.6℃.
