What is Turpentine Oil?
Turpentine is a type of essential oil and is currently the most produced essential oil. It is derived from the Pinusmassoniana Ramb and PinustabulaeformisCarr of the Pinaceae family. Or an aromatic volatile oil obtained by distillation or extraction from the oil resin seeping out of the wood of plants of the same genus. It has a special fresh and fragrant smell. It is composed of a mixture of hydrocarbons, which contains a large amount of terpene compounds. According to the different sources of raw materials, it is classified into four types: resin turpentine, wood turpentine, sulfate turpentine and dry distillation turpentine.

Toepassingen
Turpentine is a versatile chemical raw material with broad industrial applications. It is commonly encountered in sectors such as art glass, paints, camphor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and rosin production. Known as an excellent organic solvent, turpentine offers strong dissolving power and has been traditionally used in paints, drying accelerators, ointments, shoe polish, adhesives, and pharmaceuticals.
Through further processing of its main components, turpentine also serves as a valuable feedstock for the development of synthetic chemicals and fragrances, making it an important material across multiple industries.
Key Features of Turpentine
-
Natural Source – Derived mainly from pine wood through steam distillation or solvent extraction. Traditionally obtained from wood residues after rosin collection.
-
Plant-Based Origin – As a natural product, it is often preferred over synthetic chemicals for certain applications.
-
Strong Solvent Power – Exhibits excellent dissolving ability for natural resins, oils, and various organic substances.
-
Good Volatility – Its high volatility helps accelerate the drying process, making it valuable in both artistic and industrial uses.
-
Distinctive Characteristics – Combines strong solvency, volatility, characteristic odor, flammability, and natural origin for wide applicability.
