Potassium Diformate CAS 20642-05-1
Potassium Diformate, CAS 20642-05-1, is a white to off-white flowable crystalline powder. The high-purity product is nearly pure white; a small amount of impurities will present an extremely pale yellow color. It has an acidic odor. The corrosiveness of Potassium Diformate is significantly reduced, it has good fluidity, is convenient for premixing and adding, and has low volatilization loss.
1.Solubility: Extremely soluble in water, the aqueous solution is acidic; insoluble in most organic solvents.
2. Stability: Stable in acidic environment; will slowly decompose in neutral/weakly alkaline systems; decomposes at 160–180℃, releasing formic acid.
3. Mechanism of action: Formic acid + formate complex salt, slowly released into the animal digestive tract to inhibit bacteria; ultimately decomposes into CO₂ and water, with no residue.

Application
Main Applications (Core Market: Feed Industry)
1. Feed Additives (Main)
– Piglets and poultry feed: Inhibit harmful bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella, reduce diarrhea; regulate intestinal pH, increase feed conversion rate and weight gain, and replace antibiotic growth promoters.
– At the same time, potassium diformate can inhibit mold in feed, extend the shelf life of feed, and improve palatability.
– Ruminants (cattle) can also use it to improve milk production performance.
2. Secondary Applications
– Potassium Diformate can be used for organic synthesis, acidifiers, and antibacterial agents in leather/water treatment (accounting for a very small proportion).
Features
1. Gradually release formic acid to lower the pH of the intestinal tract, selectively inhibit Gram-negative harmful bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella, with little impact on beneficial lactobacilli;
2. Eventually metabolized and decomposed in the animal body into CO₂, water and potassium ions, without drug residues, belonging to non-antibiotic feed additives;
3. At the same time, it provides absorbable potassium elements, improves nutrient absorption and enhances feed conversion rate;
4. Potassium diformate also has the effect of preventing mold in feed, inhibiting the growth of mold in feed raw materials, and extending the shelf life of feed;
5. Compared with directly adding formic acid: the corrosiveness is significantly reduced, the fluidity is good, it is convenient for premix addition, and the volatilization loss is small.
Packaging and Storage
25kg bagged in PE lined woven material; highly moisture-proof.
1. Storage environment: Sealed, placed in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse; the recommended ambient temperature is < 30℃, and it should be kept away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
2. Prohibited coexistence: Strictly prohibited to be stored together with strong alkalis and oxidants; it cannot be placed together with toxic substances other than food and feed additives.
FAQ
Q: Why does the product appearance become lumpy after delivery?
A: Potassium diacetate has strong hygroscopicity. The temperature difference in the shipping container is large, which easily causes condensation; if the packaging is damaged or the inner film leaks, it will absorb moisture and form lumps. Minor lumps do not affect the chemical indicators, and can be used normally after grinding; severe moisture absorption will lead to a decrease in content.
Prevention: The packaging must have a PE inner liner. It is recommended to make a moisture-proof bag for the container. Special attention should be paid during the rainy season for export.
Q: How about the stability at high temperatures? Will it decompose under high-temperature shipping?
A: It will only decompose and release formic acid above 160℃. The container usually does not decompose within 50-60℃ for a short period. However, long-term high temperature + humidity will accelerate moisture absorption, and it is best to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Q: What are the general packaging specifications?
A: Regular: 25kg, outer woven bag + inner PE film. Customizable 1000kg ton bags (the ton bags must also have a moisture-proof film inner liner).
Q: Is the quality of the sample the same as that of the bulk goods?
A: Yes. The sample is taken from the same batch of bulk goods, and an COA is attached; the indicators will be re-tested before the bulk goods are shipped.
Q: What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
A: Regular bulk goods are 25kg (1 bag).
