Peru balsam is a yellow to light brown viscous liquid. It has a fresh ointment-like sweet aroma and a patchouli scent. Crystals often form in the liquid. It is soluble in most oils and has a white turbidity in mineral oil. It is slightly soluble in propylene glycol and almost insoluble in glycerin.
