Isobornyl acetato tem um ambiente agradável, de cânfora, como o odor que lembra de algumas variedades de agulhas de pinheiro e hemlock, e uma nova, ardente gosto. Pode ser preparado por um tratamento de camphene com ácido acético, geralmente na presença de um catalisador; também por acetilação de isobomeol; dependendo do material de partida (d-camphene ou ι-camphene), resultante de acetato podem apresentar uma ligeira atividade ótica; o produto comercial é considerado para ser opticamente inativa.
