What is Alpha-L-Rhamnose?

A natural deoxyhexose (six carbon sugar). It is an important component of various plant polysaccharides (such as gum and tree bark), bacterial cell wall polysaccharides, and many natural product glycosides (such as quercetin and kaempferol glycosides).

1. Food and beverage industry

Provides a mild sweetness (sweetness about 33% of sucrose) and enhances the overall flavor of food, especially fruit and milk flavors. Due to its low calorific value, it is used to produce low sugar, low calorie functional foods and beverages.

2. Pharmaceutical and health products

It is a key starting material or precursor for the synthesis of quercetin, vitamin B2 (riboflavin), and other flavonoid drugs and health products. The active ingredients in many medicinal plants exist in the form of glycosides with L-rhamnose as the sugar group, which itself has some biological activity.

3. Cosmetics and personal care products
