What is Sodium polyacrylate ？

Sodium polyacrylate is a white powder. Odorless and tasteless. Very hygroscopic. Polymer compounds with hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. Slowly dissolves in water to form an extremely viscous transparent liquid. The viscosity of its 0.5% solution is about Pa·s. The viscosity is not caused by water absorption and swelling (such as CMC, sodium alginate), but due to the many anionic groups in the molecule. The ionic phenomenon causes the molecular chain to grow, increasing the viscosity and forming a highly viscous solution. Its viscosity is about 15-20 times that of CMC and sodium alginate. Heat treatment, neutral salts, and organic acids have little effect on its viscosity, while alkaline conditions increase the viscosity. Insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. It will not decompose when heated to 300 degrees. The viscosity changes very little over time and is not easily corrupted. 应用

Sodium polyacrylate is used as corrosion and scale inhibitor, water quality stabilizer, coating thickener and water retention agent, flocculant, drilling mud treatment agent, etc.
Sodium polyacrylate is used for circulating cold water treatment of copper equipment, and its scale inhibition effect is good. When the dosage is 100mg/L, it can form chelates with scale-forming ions in medium hardness water and flow with the water, and can prevent the formation of iron oxide scale.
Sodium polyacrylate is used as a thickener and stabilizer in sauces, creams, and tomato sauces. Used as dispersant in fruit juice and wine. It can improve the taste and stability of ice cream. It is a surface gelling agent for frozen and processed aquatic products to preserve freshness. It can also change the protein structure, enhance the viscoelasticity of food, and improve the tissue.
