What is diglycolamine used for

Diglycolamine, also known as 2-(2-aminoethoxy)Ethanol, CAS Number 929-06-6, has the molecular formula C4H11NO2 and is abbreviated as DGA. It is a colorless syrux-like liquid and an important solvent and organic raw material. It is soluble in water and can dissolve aromatic hydrocarbons and absorb acidic gases (H2S and CO2).

Diglycolamine is an important polyurethane foaming catalyst. The polyurethane foam plastic catalyzed by it has the characteristic of low odor and can be used to produce rigid packaging foam plastic and high resilience foam. Diglycolamine is widely used in the automotive, household appliances and other fields.

Diglycolamine has a wide range of uses, mainly including the following aspects:

Acidic gas absorbent 2-(2-aminoethoxy)Ethanol can react with acidic gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) to form corresponding thioesters or carbonates. It is often used in the desulfurization and decarbonization processes of natural gas, syngas and other gases. 2-(2-aminoethoxy)Ethanol has excellent performance as a desulfurizer and can also be used in extremely cold regions.

Surfactants and wetting agents: 2-Aminoethoxy Ethanol (DGA) has excellent surface activity and can be used to prepare detergents, emulsifiers, etc. In detergents, it can enhance the cleaning effect, and in emulsifiers, it can better mix oil and water to form stable emulsions.

Polymer raw material: 2-Aminoethoxy Ethanol (DGA) can be used to synthesize high molecular materials such as polyurethane and polyamide. By participating in polymerization reactions, it provides specific structures and properties for polymers.

The composition of metalworking fluid: Diglycolamine is used as a cutting fluid in metalworking. It has low solubility for metals such as copper, aluminum and cobalt, which can reduce metal dissolution, extend the service life of cutting tools, and at the same time has a good corrosion protection effect on ferrous metals.

Pharmaceutical intermediate: Diglycolamine is often used as an intermediate in the synthesis of drugs. Its amino and hydroxyl groups can react with other chemical groups in the drug molecule to form new compounds, enhancing the efficacy and stability of the drug.

Pesticide enhancer: Diglycolamine can act as an enhancer in pesticide formulations, enhancing the penetration and persistence of pesticides, reducing their environmental impact, and also serving as a plant growth regulator to promote plant growth and improve stress resistance.
