Thioacetamide is een kleurloze of witte kristallijne stof. Smeltpunt 113-114 ℃, de oplosbaarheid in water bij 25 ℃ 16.3 g/100 ml ethanol 26.4 g/100 ml bedraagt. Zeer goed oplosbaar in benzine en ether. De waterige oplossing is heel stabiel bij kamertemperatuur of 50-60 ℃, maar wanneer de waterstof-ionen aanwezig zijn, thiohydrogen is snel geproduceerd en afgebroken. Nieuwe producten hebben soms een thiol geur en lichte absorptie van vocht.

Thioacetamide wordt gebruikt in de productie van katalysatoren, stabilisatoren, polymerisatie-remmers, galvaniseren additieven, fotografische drugs, bestrijdingsmiddelen, verven van de hulporganisaties en de verwerking van mineralen agenten. Het wordt ook gebruikt als een vulcanisatie-agent, verknoping agent, rubber additief, en de farmaceutische grondstof voor polymeren.
