Dimethyl sulfoxide (1-10%) heeft aangetoond te versnellen strand renaturatie en wordt verondersteld om de nucleïnezuur thermische stabiliteit tegen depurination. Als een PCR cosolvent, DMSO kan helpen bij het verbeteren van het rendement, vooral bij lange PCR.
