Es tritt in verschiedenen essentialoils, insbesondere öl von Thymian,und können hergestellt werden, indem man Eisen(III) - Chlorid oxidieren piperitone (itselfextracted aus Eukalyptus-öl). Itsantiseptic Eigenschaften werden ausgenutzt ingargles und Mundspülungen.
